You can request a scale inspection online or call 311 and ask for "scale inspection." You will get a notification of your inspection date within 15 days of the City receiving your scale inspection request. Note: You will get notification within five days if you have a condemned scale.

Average inspection time is 15 to 30 minutes per scale. DCWP will bill you for the scale inspection fee after the inspection. The fees are set by New York State Weights and Measures Regulations.

Business must schedule an annual inspection at least 60 days before the scale’s expiration date.

Scale dealers and repairers operating in New York City must have a DCWP license. Before you buy or repair a scale, make sure the business has a DCWP license.
