You need a Certificate of Fitness to be a Fire Guard in shelters if there is no sprinkler system or if the fire protection system is not working.

A shelter is a place for people who need a temporary home, such as homeless or elderly people. Fire Guards help remove fire hazards. They also help people leave the building during drills and emergencies. A Fire Safety Coordinator is required to supervise Fire Guards.

This Certificate of Fitness is for one specific person. It can be used anywhere in New York City.
