Assisted living programs in New York State must have a Certificate of Need to operate. This certificate comes from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).
These programs help people with cognitive and/or age-related disabilities, and they can work alongside a residential adult care facility. The operator must organize all resident services.
Assisted living program services include:
- Residential help
- Case management
- Personal care
Operators cannot provide nursing or medical services.
As of January 1, 2025, new laws are now in effect to better govern adult homes. Operators should review them as soon as possible.
